Clay Buchholz
Clay Buchholz will take the mound for the Red Sox Thursday night in the last game of the four-game series against the White Sox at Fenway Park.
In his last appearance, Buchholz (8-3, 5.54) allowed four runs in 6 1/3 innings against the Rays en route to a 5-3 loss. That was his first start since returning from the disabled list with esophagitis.
Prior to the DL stint, Buchholz was on a four-game winning streak as he defeated the Marlins (twice), Orioles and Blue Jays. The last time the 27-year-old stood on the mound for a victory was on June 19 against the Marlins. He allowed five runs and nine hits in six innings in the 7-5 Red Sox victory.
Buchholz has note faced the White Sox since 2010.
Jose Quintana will take the mound for Chicago in his first start against the Red Sox. The lefty, who has never faced any current Red Sox batters, is 4-1 on the season with a 2.60 ERA.
The White Sox have won four of Quintana’s starts in a row, defeating the Royals, Rangers, Yankees and Brewers. In those four games the 23-year-old threw 27 innings and allowed 12 runs.
In his last start, Quintana allowed five runs over five innings against the Royals as the White Sox won 9-8. The White Sox last lost a Quintana start on June 17, despite the fact that he allowed zero runs through eight innings in a 2-1 loss to the Dodgers.White Sox vs. Buchholz (RHP)
